Route to Playa la Propia on Isla de Margarita

Playa la Propia is a small bay located near Playa el Agua, relatively close to Cabo Negro beach on Isla de Margarita in Venezuela. The distinctive feature of this beach is that it looks like an almost vertical wall of sand. There are tourist outings that set off by boat from the town of Manzanillo, but reaching this spot on foot has its own merit. This bay is generally deserted, which makes it very attractive to those who flee the hustle and bustle and the beaches crowded with bathers. Another point in its favor is that the water is very crystal-clear and there are few irregularities or stones on the bottom, which is ideal for children. The estimated time to reach the beach on foot, setting out from Playa el Agua or from the town of Manzanillo, is approximately 1 or 2 hours.

How to get there?

There are 3 ways to get there in general. The first is on foot, setting out from Playa el Agua; it would be the same trail that leads to Cabo Negro beach along the coast, except that upon reaching Playa la Cazonera there is a turnoff to the left that must be taken to reach Playa la Propia. After about 20 minutes, you will see a very steep descent, which leads down to this bay. The second way is by setting out from the town of Manzanillo. The third way is not on foot but by boat; they depart from Manzanillo and in about 5 minutes you are on the beach effortlessly. Cost?

The approximate cost of doing this route, taking into account food, transport, and other factors, is about 3$ USD on foot. If your plan is to hire a boat, the cost of the boat runs around 1.5$USD per person; with the fishermen you also negotiate the return time.

What to bring?

Snacks, fruit, 3 liters of drinking water, 1 liter of water for washing. Sunscreen, a camera, ice, a change of socks, boots, sunglasses, a bathing suit.

Recommendations

The ideal time to be at this beach is in the morning, between 6am and 9am; since the bay is almost vertical, the incline provides protection from the sun, which reaches the bay around 9:30 to 10am. So you can count on a natural awning during that interval.
