Route to Pampatar on Isla de Margarita

The town of Pampatar is a sector of Isla de Margarita located just 10 minutes from the city of Porlamar, which is the largest urban center on the Island. Its beaches, its church, its tranquility, the food, the inns, and its beautiful views will make your visit to this place more than satisfying. One of the attractions that is most drawing in tourists is the Punta Ballena Lighthouse, or Pampatar Lighthouse, a spot conceived as a bid to attract tourism to Isla de Margarita. The lighthouse can be toured on the inside; it has around 5 floors, and through its balconies it is possible to enjoy a pleasant panoramic view of the Island.

How to Get There?

Reaching the lighthouse is very simple; surely, if you are not quite clear on which road to take, the residents will kindly guide you. The street by which one usually enters the town when coming from Porlamar is Joaquín Maneiro Street; on it you will see the Church of the Cristo del Buen Viaje and, across from it, the small San Carlos de Borromeo castle. You continue along the natural route and turn right onto El Cristo Street, and you stay on it until you come across a second detour to the left, an uphill street called Colinas de la Caranta, at the end of which lies the Pampatar Lighthouse. To get there, there are three alternatives: by vehicle, on foot, or by bicycle. By bicycle the experience is very pleasant.

In the surroundings of the lighthouse there are many birds, gulls, and pelicans that sometimes excrete their waste while flying, so you have to be careful if you do not want to get dirty. On the other hand, depending on the season, you can go down and visit the famous salt flats of Pampatar that are admired from the lighthouse.
